Brown Thrasher
Posted: September 6, 2011 Filed under: birds, summer, World Bird Wednesday 26 Comments »I first saw a Brown Thrasher here a few years ago, but was never able to get a shot of it. I hadn’t seen another one until this year. They’re very elusive birds; at the slightest disturbance they go skulking off to a thicket, not to be seen again for hours (or years, in my case). Related to the Mockingbird, they’re said to have a wonderful repertoire of songs. I have not been able to distinguish the BT’s song from other birds’ songs, but I really don’t have a very good ear for bird calls. I just think they’re beautiful and I’m thrilled whenever I see one. I got these shots even though this guy was trying use the picnic table for cover.

What a beautiful little bird.
So glad you were able to photograph it!
Very nice photo–I really like the last one. Have a nice week. Mickie
Pat, I think he/she allowed you to get a few shots! Love that last one! Look at those eyes…….so alert and ready!
Nice job!

You Know Me
Great shots, especially the last one where the pattern of the feathers is so very clear.
Beautiful shots. The bird looks very concentrated.
Great series on the Brown Thrasher. They are cool looking birds, I love their eyes.
Great shots this Thrasher Brow. A real trophy.
Hi there – like the last shot, with the bird behind the table – I don’t think every bird shot needs to look like a guide book image! Seems to reflect what you said about the bird – it’s a bit of a hider!

Great close ups!! Boom & gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
I enjoyed very much for your photos. It is dramatic and moving for me too.
He’s beautiful and so are your shots!
I’ve scrolled down your page and I believe your use of texture is some of the best I’ve seen. Lovely work!!
What a beautiful bird! Too bad it’s so shy but lucky you to catch it again! And thanks for sharing! I’m really loving Birdwatch Wednesday with all the birds we get to discover across the world!
Warm greetings from West Africa!
Great photos of a Brown Thrasher, Pat. So focused, perhaps listening for insects?
A beautiful bird to see.
Once seen, that manic yellow eye is unforgetable. Thrashers are quiet right now, but are teriffic singers when on the prowl for a mate in the spring. Great capture!
glad it allowed you to get some shots to share. Don´t think I have seen it either. I like the shape of it´s head.
Good for you Pat! Another bird to add to your list.
I was thrilled this summer when we finally had one come hang out in our yard for a while. He only stayed for a few days, but he was fun to watch! Gorgeous photos!
Congratulations on getting the shot! I like the last one alot. That eye is crystal clear.
We stayed somewhere once where there were brown thrashers in a tree right by our RV — I loved them — their eyes are so different and flat! I remember checking outside every morning and evening to see how they were doing. Your pictures are wonderful.
(I want to say we were in Arizona but I’m going to go try to find my pictures to see.)
Oh, these are lovely shots.
beautiful shots…especially that last one.
